Last night, we enjoyed our church's Christmas special at First Baptist Church in Carthage.  As a family we watched the incredible musicians and choir sing some amazing Yule Tide songs reflecting the true meaning of Christmas, the birth of baby Jesus, who would save his people from their sins.

The choir performed with special nativity scene actors on the screen.  The choir loft and pulpit stage area was dotted with beautiful Christmas red poinsettias,  lighted candles everywhere,  and angels blowing horns to announce the birth of the Christ child.

Sprinkled among the choirs professional performances we as a congregation got to join in with Christmas carols,  like,  "Away in the Manger," "Silent Night," and  "Angels We Have Heard on High."

We then got to retreat to the fellowship hall for finger foods and desserts baked by the best cooks in the world - the ladies in the church.

No one can bake a pie, make candy, or cook a  potluck dish like the silver haired church lady.

There are still special Christmas services going on in the Shreveport-Bossier area.  Some already have been held.

First Baptist Church, 543 Ockley Drive, Shreveport, had a special music program yesterday morning celebrating Christmas.  The Sanctuary Choir was  in concert with a full orchestra, singing carols of the season, as well as congregational hymns.

On Christmas Eve,  Saturday, First Baptist will have a Lessons and Carols service at 5:30 p.m. ,  featuring lay readers and Sherry Upshaw on the organ.

"A Festival of Lessons and Carols," was presented yesterday at St. Mark's Cathedral, 908 Rutherford St., Shreveport.

Since Christmas Day is on a Sunday this year,  many churches are having special intimate Christmas services this Sunday morning.

Here's one of my all time favorite Christmas carols. When I took piano lessons as a child, I found it difficult to play, but beautiful. It's "Angels, We Have Heard on High."
