Centaur Welcomes New Royals Saturday for Upcoming Mardi Gras Season
The Krewe of Centaur is ready to reveal its new royal court and prepare for the coming 2023 Mardi Gras season Saturday, August 13, 2022, at the Bossier Civic Center.
If you're new to Mardi Gras, you may be wondering what the deal is with crowning new royals. Each season, a new royal court is selected to represent the krewe at functions like the Krewe of Centaur Grand Bal and Parade, as well as during charity functions, community outreach, and at other area krewes' events. They're the official 'face' of the krewe. The royal court is revealed at coronation, which Centaur calls their 'Midway to Mardi Gras' party. Yes, we even celebrate during the time of year we're furthest away from the holiday!
A lot of people wonder what to expect. First, attire is what they call 'Mardi Gras casual.' Wearing Mardi Gras-themed outfits is usually the norm with many of our members opting to wear their 'trash jacket,' which is generally an old tuxedo jacket that's been decorated with pins, trim, glitter, and sequins. While jeans are totally fine, Centaur asks that you not wear shorts. You will see some people in formal gowns and tuxedos, but they're generally the outgoing or incoming royalty. And yes, we definitely honor our 'Happy Has-Beens' for their service.
So here are the down and dirty details for Saturday's party. You can get your ticket at the door for $85. Doors open at 6 pm with the presentation aka royal tableau taking place at 8 pm. SiDE fX will be there to play and Centaur's signature bottomless drink cups will be in everyone's hands. So, without further ado, All Hail the Mighty Krewe of Centaur! I hope to see you there!
