Louisiana Downs recently hosted racing featuring exotic animals. But a creature of a different sort wandered onto a race track in south Louisiana.

In fact, on this video shot by Joseph Bryant Allen via Storyful you can see the creature walking across the track at Delta Downs in Vinton and one of the horses getting ready to race gets spooked big time.

You can see this alligator moseying across the track and the handler of one of the thoroughbreds is not too far away. The horse clearly freaks out and wants no part of the gator.

At Louisiana Downs for Memorial Day, they sponsored zebra and camel races.

They also had some ostriches running around the track.

If you think about reptile races, I could see turtles and maybe even Komodo Dragons. But I don't think gators would make the cut for the racing fans. In fact, I'm pretty sure no track in the country would try to host gator races. I know you would not likely have any fans lining the railing with alligators puttering around the track. I'm certain of that.

So let's hope Louisiana Downs sticks with the exotic animals like the ostriches, zebras and camels. They also host annual Weiner dog races over the Labor Day weekend which is one of the most popular events at the local track. Delta Downs will be hosting zebra races later this month. Let's hope they don't send the gators our way.
