The Krewe of Barkus & Meoux is Shreveport & Bossier's official pet krewe. Making sure Mardi Gras season isn't just for humans, but for our pets as well.

Every year, Barkus & Meoux host a pet parade and vendor market during Mardi Gras season. The pet parade is a walking parade instead of a parade filled with floats, because the stars of the parade aren't built for riding as much as walking. However that doesn't mean there WON'T be floats, its just probably not going to look like the first thing you might think of when you hear "Mardi Gras parade". But that doesn't mean the pets aren't going to get all dressed up in their Mardi Gras best...

This year's theme for the Krewe of Barkus and Meoux celebrates one of Shreveport's premiere pop culture events, Geek'd Con. If you're not familiar with Geek'd Con, its Shreveport's comic con event. Geek'd Con is held every August at the Shreveport Convention Center, this year is year #8 and will be held August 18-20. One of the first guests announced for this year's Geek'd Con is actually a bit of a "dog" himself...

This year's Krewe of Barkus & Meoux pet parade and vendor market will be at the Louisiana State Fair grounds. Gates for the event will open at 11:30am on Sunday, February 12th. There will be vendors, food trucks, and of course, the pet parade. There will be prizes awarded throughout the event, including their costume contest, where you're asked to dress your pet based on the theme "Barkus & Meoux Gets Geek'd", meaning dress your pet like they're going to a comic con. So superheroes, cartoon characters, Star Wars characters, anime, Harry Potter, or whatever you can think of.

You can get info on how to sign up for the contests, parade, or to be a vendor, here.
