Dick Clark: American Bandstand [VIDEOS]

Gary-Wagner/Getty

American Bandstand premiered in September of 1952 on WFIL-TV Channel 6 in Philadelphia.

It was a replacement for a weekday movie. Bob Horn was the first host along with his radio show of the same name on WFIL radio.

In 1956, Horn was fired after being arrested for drunk driving. Horn was replaced temporarily replaced by producer Tony Mammarella and soon the job went to Dick Clark permanently.

And the rest is history.
