We Haven’t Even Seen Groot’s Final Form, Says Vin Diesel
Vin Diesel is kinda like that guy at all the parties who always wants to talk to you about his awesome new startup. It’s gonna be the best, way better than the last one, it’s gonna win tons of awards and make billions of dollars. Sure, Vin, you say. That sounds great. But he just keeps doing it. It comes from a good place: the man loves his movies. But, boy, does he love hyping them even more. Most recently, he suggested that we haven’t even seen Groot’s mega-evolution yet — the first two forms have just been kid stuff.
The Guardians will appear in at least two MCU movies after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2: Vol. 3 and Infinity War. This gives Baby Groot plenty of time to sprout his Adult Groot limbs — and Diesel told USA Today that he’s only going to get bigger.
The first Groot we saw was a freshman in college. This [Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2] Groot is in nursery school. Wait ’til we see the full-fledged working-man Groot. Wait ’til we see GROOT!
If what he says is legit, what could this mean for Groot’s next appearance? In the first Guardians, he mostly looked like a friendly man-stump on stilt-legs. But in the comics, particularly in my favorite version, he looks like this. A wooden hell-beast with roots for hair and beady, glowing eyes in sunken sockets was probably a bit too scary for what James Gunn and co. were looking for, but it would still be pretty awesome to see in a movie.
Diesel didn’t stop there. Oh no.
James Gunn has always wanted a Rocket and Groot movie. And I know that Disney is very much into being successful. And the most successful poster in Disney’s future is the poster that has ‘Groot vs. Hulk.’ … (The world) cannot wait to see it.
Well, that’s big if true. Groot and Rocket have only been introduced to movie-watchers as two parts of a whole, but a spinoff focusing on just them and how they met could be a lot of fun, if Marvel decided to go that way.
When asked about Diesel’s comments, Gunn laughed Marvel-ly.
Vin has a lot of ideas. I don’t know where he comes up with these things! I love Vin.
That’s Movie Biz-talk for “Oh, bless your heart,” which is Southern for “You need to stop talking.”
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters May 5.
