Unemployment Down In Shreveport/Bossier City
Seems like everything you hear about the economy in Shreveport/Bossier is bad. The GM plant closed in 2012 and has not been redeveloped as promised. In the past few weeks it was revealed that Louisiana has the highest sales tax rate in the entire nation. And on January 1st, Amazon started charging Louisiana sales tax--horrors!
But not all economic news is woeful. According to the U.S. Dept. Of Labor Bureau Of Statistics, Shreveport/Bossier's unemployment rate has dropped from 7.3 percent in July to 5.7 percent this past January. That's just above the national average of 4.9 percent.
In another sign that things are looking up, the Shreveport Convention Center announced that they are conducting a job fair on Monday, February 20th, from 10am-7pm. They are hiring for part-time jobs in food and beverage, event services, and event security. For more information, contact the Convention Center at 318-841-4000 or on-line at shreveportcenter.com
