Without a doubt, James Burton is one of the most important guitar players in rock and roll history. His resume includes some major accomplishments include being the leader of Elvis' Taking Care of Business Band and writing the guitar lick for "Suzy Q", which is widely considered one of the most important guitar licks in rock history . He is ranked number 19 in Rolling Stones' list of 100 Greatest Guitarists.  Critic Mark Demming writes that "Burton has a well-deserved reputation as one of the finest guitar pickers in either country or rock ... Burton is one of the best guitar players to ever touch a fretboard."

Even beyond what he actually accomplished, the list of James Burton acolytes is a who's who of music. Everyone from Jimmy Page to Brad Paisley say that James Burton is one of the reasons they picked up a guitar. In fact, Jimmy used to (and maybe still does) carry a photo of Mr. Burton in his wallet.

But, maybe one of the most impressive of James Burton's fans is Keith Richards. The Rolling Stones guitarist has gone on record numerous times as saying that he never purchased a Ricky Nelson record, he bought James Burton records.

In fact, if you didn't know, Keith Richards inducted James Burton into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. If you've never seen the video, you can watch it below.

In another video, Richards details why Burton is so important and influential.

Burton is a legend around the world and we should be proud that he's a Shreveport guy!
