This Texas Rangers Legend Is Coming To Shreveport
Shreveport's comic con, Geek'd Con, is coming back this August. The dates are August 16-18 at the Shreveport Convention Center. The event usually draws thousands of fans from around the country to meet and greet their favorite stars from movies, TV, and video games.
But this year, Geek'd Con is expanding to include a new event.
In 2024, Geek'd Con will host the first ever Shreveport Sports Card Expo. This will be 3 days filled with sports card dealers, sports memorabilia, and athletes present to sign autographs for fans.
The inaugural Shreveport Sports Card Expo will feature Texas Rangers legend Rafael Palmeiro!
Raffy is a 4-time MLB All Star, won the Gold Glove three times, won 2 Silver Slugger Awards, and he is one of only seven players in MLB history to be a member of both the 500 home run club and the 3,000 hit club!
He played his college baseball at Mississippi State, where he was one of the first 2 players in school history to win an SEC Triple Crown. He was inducted into the Mississippi State Hall of Fame in 2008, the National College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2009, and the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame in 2012.
After his college career, he was drafted in the First Round of the MLB Draft by the Chicago Cubs.
From 1986-1988, he played for the Chicago Cubs. Then from 1989-1993, Palmerio was a Texas Ranger. He then joined the Baltimore Orioles in 1994 and stayed there through 1998. In 1999 he returned to the Rangers, and remained there until 2003. In the 2004 and 2005 seasons, he finished his career back in Baltimore.
Over his 20 year MLB career, he spent half his seasons with the Texas Rangers. Sports Illustrated and Fox Sports are among the publications that regularly rank Palmerio as one of the greatest Texas Rangers of all time.
