The biggest piece to the New Orleans Saint's off season is actually the biggest piece in their franchise's history.

Future Hall of Fame quarterback Drew Brees is the unquestioned greatest Saint of all time, and he's currently without a contract. Which could mean big problems for the Saints, or it could provide an opportunity for the organization, city, and fan base to fall further in love with Mr. Brees.

See, #9 isn't a young man anymore. He turned 39 earlier this year, will be 40 when the 2019 season kicks off, and if he gets a 3 year deal, would be 42 when the final Super Bowl of that deal would be done. So it's unrealistic for the Saints to offer any kind of long term deal.

But Brees will still look to get paid. The question then becomes will Brees force the Saints into a bad situation by asking for way too much money, or will he want to just win another ring?

We might find out soon, at least based on this info from the Louisiana Radio Network:

"ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the Saints are meeting with Drew Brees’ agent. Head Coach Sean Payton said at the draft combine that he expects talks will go smoothly on a new contract.

Also, multiple reports say the Saints will not re-sign safety Kenny Vaccaro."
