Texas Tech football fired its head football coach on Monday and put Sonny Cumbie in charge as the team headed to Norman, Oklahoma for a game against the undefeated 4th ranked Oklahoma Sooners. It went as well as you'd imagine it could go…if you're imagining a Halloween nightmare situation on the field.

Texas Tech looked physically outmatched for the majority of the game and lost quarterback Henry Colombi late in the second quarter after a late hit on the sideline. Donovan Smith played admirably in relief, but it wasn't enough to provide a difference after entering the game down 28-7.

Smith had two turnovers in the game with an interception bounce off Myles Price's hands and a fumble in the fourth quarter. He also had a touchdown pass on 4th and 3 and some dynamic plays inside the pocket to prove he's got the chops to see more time moving forward.

Aside from quarterback play, Erik Ezukanma had his first 100-yard receiving game since he racked up 143 against SFA.

Defensively, there was very little resistance to the Sooners, who punted on their opening drive and then scored on every following drive until they ran the clock out up 52-21. Oklahoma quarterback Caleb Williams threw for six touchdowns and more than 400 yards after the Red Raiders took away the Sooners’ rushing attack.

Sonny Cumbie will now get a bye week to gather the team and head into three more ranked matchups to close the year out. After the bye, they'll have Iowa State, who just lost to West Virginia, then Oklahoma State before finishing with Baylor, who beat the Longhorns this afternoon.

The only question now is, is it basketball season yet?
