Squirrel Hunting 101 Course to be Offered in Baton Rouge

A Beginner's Guide to Squirrel Hunting, no it's not a made for football players course at a well-known university in Baton Rouge. Instead, it's a real live seminar designed to educate the beginning hunter on one of the joys of Louisiana's fall season, squirrel hunting.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is offering the course free of charge. It will be held in Baton Rouge at the Waddill Wildlife Refuge on September the 19th. Masks will be required for those who want to attend and social distancing protocols will be followed.

LDWF officials hope the seminar will educate young or beginning squirrel hunters on some of the basics needed for a successful and safe harvest. The topics expected to be discussed in the seminar include firearms selection, wildlife navigation, and of course the rules and regulation that govern squirrel hunting in Louisiana.

There will also be a discussion and demonstration of proper hunting techniques. So, even experienced hunters might find out some very useful information by attending this free seminar. The fall season for squirrel begins in Louisiana on October the 3rd and will run through the end of February next year.

Registration for the event is necessary for those that choose to attend. As we mentioned, there is no fee being charged but organizers would like to have an idea of how many people will be in attendance so that COVID-19 protocols can be implemented properly.

The seminar is scheduled to begin at 8 am on September 19th and should wrap up around Noon on that same day. The Waddill Wildlife Refuge is located in Baton Rouge at 4142 North Flannery Road.
