Shreveport Teacher Wins a Flight with Navy Blue Angels
There is no doubt being a teacher is one of those special professions that impacts thousands of young people. We have so many gifted teachers in classrooms all over Shreveport and Bossier City.
Saying thanks to them on Teacher Appreciation Days just doesn't seem like it's enough. We should find a way to thank them more often.
One local teacher got a big time thank you this week. Sarah "Kate" McMillan, an 8th-grade English teacher at Caddo Middle School Magnet got quite a thrill this week as she was honored with a high flying opportunity. McMillan was nominated for a U.S. Navy Blue Angels incentive flight.
These flights are awarded to folks who make a difference in our community. A news release from the Navy says these flights are "offered to individuals who have a positive impact on the community and go above and beyond to take care of the people around them."
The Navy has honored McMillan for teaching her students "how to lead and provide them with opportunities to put those leadership skills into action. She has orchestrated several student-led volunteer events such as food drives, toy drives, and other fundraisers that give back to the community."
The Blue Angels will be in action during the Defenders of Liberty Air Show at Barksdale on Saturday and Sunday. The gates open each day at 9am and the show starts at 11am.
