Shreveport Police Chief Sings ‘Old Town Road’ and Wows Crowd
We know about National Night Out and the purpose of the program, to help fight crime.
But Shreveport has cranked it up a notch this year and pushed to get more than 300 neighborhoods to participate. From the looks of things around town last night, we will probably hit that number.
One of the parties I stopped by was on Patton and the organizers say they just decided to host the party on the day before. Pre-registration for parties in Shreveport topped the 260 mark a few days before the big day.
But another big change for National Night Out in Shreveport this year was a pre-party for all first responders and their families. This was held at the police headquarters on Texas Street and it gave the public servants time to start off the night with their families before they fanned out into the community.
What Happened at this Big Party?
But what happened at this party was a game changer. Shreveport Fire Chief Clarence Reese Jr, City Marshall James Jefferson and Shreveport Police Chief battled in a karaoke contest. This was not expected and the crowd went wild.
I think this was a close battle as Chief Reese showed off his impressive chops with his rendition of Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World".
Shreveport City Marshall James Jefferson gives the crowd another reason to cheer and sing.
Chief Wayne Smith goes all out with a cowboy hat and boots (with spurs) to sing "Old Town Road.
In the end, the crowd cheers determined the winner and Chief Smith is the winner this year, but I hear Chief Reese is demanding a rematch!!
Looking forward to that.
