Since 2009, the New Orleans Saints are undefeated in November. That, along with the fact that the Saints were coming off their bye, figured to make life difficult for the visiting New York Giants.

NEW ORLEANS ― Sean Payton has long preached the importance of November football in the NFL.

New Orleans pounded New York 49-24 on Monday Night Football, sending the reeling NFC East Giants back to the Northeast likely wondering where another season went wrong.

Meanwhile, Payton’s Saints improved to 11-0 in the month of November since 2009 and now look to be serious contenders again in the NFC.

And just as important as their record in the month of November, the Saints improved to 5-0 after bye weeks since the beginning of 2009.

By the beginning of the third quarter, quarterback Drew Brees had thrown for 350 yards, four touchdowns and had run for another score.

The first drive of the game set the tone.

The Saints tried the aggressive tact early, faking a field goal on fourth-and-11 from New York’s 19. But while Chase Daniel’s pass to Jimmy Graham was caught, the tight end was stopped short of the first down by two yards.
