Rangers Lead the Series 3-2, Thanks to Napoli!
The Texas Rangers took advantage of the St. Louis Cardinals inability to hit and confusion surrounding which pitchers to play and grabbed last night's Game 5 of the World Series, 3 to 2.
The win is due in large part to Mike Napoli, who hit a one-out, two-run double in the eighth inning. That was the tie-breaker. That important hit was made off left-handed relief pitcher Marc Rzepczynski. There seemed to be confusion or some sort of mix up in the St. Louis bull pen.
Cardinals manager Tony La Russa said after the game that he actually wanted right-hander Jason Motte to pitch to Napoli, but the Cardinals' bull pen misheard La Russa, and had Lance Lynn warming up instead.
Rangers starter C.J. Wilson said in the bull pen, strange stuff happens. ...We were sitting around saying, "What's going on?"
La Russa said he actually told Motte to get up, but that they heard Lynn. He said it was so loud it was hard to hear.
Game 6 of the World Series moves to St. Louis tomorrow night and let's hope a large number of Rangers fans scare up enough loud noise to confuse the Cards' bull pen again.
