Marvel’s ‘Punisher’ Renewed for Season 2, ‘Reloading’ Puns Follow
Seeing as Marvel’s Netflix Punisher turned out more nuanced and thoughtful than its bullet-ridden trailers would suggest, we’re not surprised they’d pull the trigger on Season 2. Frank Castle will be back in action before you know it, and the first teaser is already here.
Marvel confirmed as much on Tuesday, just weeks from November’s previously-delayed premiere. It’s entirely too early to speculate on any plot details, but one imagines Ben Barnes might be back as Billy Russo, given the extensive Season 1 setup to turn his character into comic villain Jigsaw. Less clear is if Daredevil star Deborah Ann Woll will again take part as Karen Page, but you can check out the announcement teaser below:
It’s an equally valid question when Season 2 might premiere, given that Marvel and Netflix recently set Jessica Jones’ Season 2 premiere date for March 8. Slotting the first Punisher season into 2017 marked the first instance of Marvel premiering three Netflix series in one year, though 2018 presumably has Luke Cage Season 2 and Daredevil Season 3 next in the queue, to say nothing of Iron Fist Season 2 potentially arriving in 2019.
Not to mention – we still don’t know for sure if Marvel will build to a second Defenders crossover, or if The Punisher might take part. In the meantime, stay tuned for early details of The Punisher Season 2, and watch all Season 1 episodes on Netflix.
