Officials To Re-think Fireworks Ban

A last minute fireworks ban by city and parish officials in Shreveport and surrounding areas will be re-visited today.

This year has been the second driest year on record in Louisiana.  Northwest Louisiana is 10 inches below normal rainfall levels for the year.  These dry conditions have forced the ban of use and sale of fireworks for the Fourth of July holiday.

The sale and discharge of class E fireworks, those used by non-licensed civilians, will not be allowed within the city limits of Shreveport and Bossier City extending out into Bossier Parish.  This current ban will last through the remainder of June.

Officials will reevaluate the ban today to possibly reverse or limit it if weather conditions improve.

The Fourth of July fireworks display on the Red River will go on as scheduled, but Bossier City has cancelled the July 3 fireworks show at Harrah's Louisiana Downs.

Caddo Parish has not announced a fireworks ban.
