It's not every week that people get to say "for the first time in school history" about your football program. But this isn't any regular week for Nicholls State, and honestly, this isn't any regular season for Nicholls State.

Today, The Colonels will host an FCS playoff game for the first time ever at Guidry Stadium.

Nicholls will take on South Dakota at 3 PM.

Just a few weeks ago, Nicholls appeared to be hitting on all cylinders against Stephen F. Austin, as the team enjoyed career-high rushing efforts from Kyran Irvin and Tahj Smith, on their way to a team-season-high 418 yards on the ground.

Last week, Nicholls suffered a heartbreaker on the road to Southeastern Louisiana, 21-17, after Nicholls had a 14-7 halftime lead.

South Dakota is limping into the playoffs, after going winless in November to end the regular season. They're currently on a 3-game losing streak, with their last win coming before Halloween.

With South Dakota playing the way they are, Nicholls might have a chance to make a little more history today.
