Shreveport is preparing to start the process of building a new police headquarters building. The goal is to build at the current location at Texas and Murphy.

Police Chief Wayne Smith made a trip to Longview, Texas to check out the construction of a new police station in that community. Longview Chief Anthony Boone and his staff met with Wayne Smith and his staff members.

Chief Smith reviewed all of the plans and the process for beginning work on a 71,000 square foot, state of the art police station in Longview. Shreveport voters recently approved money to build a new station here.

Late last year, Shreveport voters approved only just one of five bond issue proposals on the ballot. The voters ok'd the measure providing funding for police and fire department needs.

$70 million dollars was approved for public safety in our community. $27.5 million is earmarked for the new police station.
