After spending a ton of time in New Orleans with the Saints and Head Coach Sean Payton, elite defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh may end up heading north instead.

The New York Jets have reportedly emerged as a favorite to land free agent defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh. The former Dolphin and Lion visited with the Saints, Rams and Titans over the last week.

It appeared that the Saints would be a perfect landing spot for Suh. With a heavily improved Saints defense proving themselves last year, and a strong, long-term head coach (something he's never enjoyed in his NFL career) the Saints seemed to be a good fit from Suh's perspective.

The Saints also made some moves to work Suh's contract needs in, including getting the "hometown" discount from Drew Brees on his new deal, while also restructuring Thomas Morstead's contract. The Saints did have an improved defense last year, but Suh is a Top 5 defensive lineman, and to have a player like that hitting the free market, the team has to look at that.
