Master P is Bringing Mixed-Gender Pro Basketball to Shreveport
The city of Shreveport may have missed an opportunity to bring the NBA's G-League Basketball here, but if you love round-ball - there's still hope. According to the Ark-La-Tex Homepage, investment company 'Louisiana Power' and rap-mogul Master P are bringing a unique basketball experience to Shreveport and the first game is already scheduled.
The team is called the New Orleans Gators, and they will be practicing, playing exhibition games, and hosting community events at the Centenary Gold Dome. Master P is part owner of the team, and a big influence in the league itself.
What makes this league radically different from any other is one simple change: Guys and girls play together. The GMGB (or Global Mixed Gender Basketball) is an entire professional league dedicated to showcasing great basketball while smashing stereotypes, glass ceilings, and maybe a few backboards.
The key thing here is this: It isn't men vs. women - the genders work together on the hardwood to defeat the other team. That means no more "Guys can dunk better," or "Women are better team mates." - now we get to enjoy the best basketball that humans can play. All of the strengths mixed together should make for some exciting play.
The season starts officially in 2018, but the first exhibition game will be December 22 against the Washington Fusion. The team will show off their skills and collect toys for Christmas Donation drive they call "Balling for a Cause."
