Many folks chose to sleep in on the Fourth of July, however, there were 3,500 people that got up early to participate in the 35th Annual Sportspectrum Firecracker 5k Race for Research. It was a sea of red white and blue outside of Mall Saint Vincent on the Fourth of July.

No matter how early we get up, it's July in the South. It was hot, muggy, and I am pretty sure that all the fun water guns, slip and slides, and even the huge inflatable water slide only masked the heat for a split second. While I along with my friends had a fun leisure "run" there was a man who was in it to win it.

The 47-year-old man who broke a Shreveport record is Kevin Castille of Baton Rouge. Castille blazed through the 5k like he knew he was going to dominate. Castille clocked in at 14:24.2. which means he won the race and he ran home with $1,500!

While I am cheering on Castille, I can't help but think he didn't enjoy the Firecracker 5k as much as I did!
