LSU Wins, NSU Loses In The NCAA Baseball Tournament
The LSU baseball team will play a winner’s bracket contest against Oregon State in the Corvallis Regional tonight.
LSU moved on after beating San Diego State 6-4 in the afternoon. The Tigers scored three runs in the second and three more in the sixth inning. A sharp single up the middle by Jake Slaughter gave the Tigers the lead for good. Devin Fontenot threw three innings of relief for his third win and Todd Peterson breezed through the ninth inning for his sixth save.
Northwestern State will have a tougher road to the Regional Final, after the Oregon State Beavers defeated Northwestern State 9-3 late last night. The Demons didn't look completely out of place against the 3rd overall seed in the country. Lenni Kunert put together a three hit game for NSU, including a solo home run. Heading into the 6th inning, the game still felt like the Demons were right in the mix. But after Beavers pitcher Bryce Fehmel burned through the Demons 1,2,3 in the top of the 6th, the Beavers exploded for 4 runs in the bottom of the inning.
Northwestern State will now face San Diego State today in a win-or-go-home game that could send the Demons back to Louisiana.
You'll be able to hear LSU vs. Oregon State tonight at 8:30pm on 1130 The Tiger, which is 1130AM across Shreveport and Bossier.
