LSU Baseball to Host Super Regional in Baton Rouge
Through the ups and downs of the 2019 LSU Baseball season, many of those paying attention kept telling themselves "this team is made for the post-season".
You know what, they may have been right.
This year's LSU Baseball team was the preseason #1 squad in the nation, a title they let slip away pretty early on in the year. The team dealt with injuries and mid-week losses all year, but everyone kept pointing to the post-season tournaments. If not for a 17 inning marathon game that ended at 3am, and a 12pm first pitch the following day, LSU looked like a team that could have pushed for an SEC Tournament title. Which got them a nice spot in the NCAA Tournament, hosting a Regional.
In that Regional, LSU blew past the competition, clearing out Stony Brook and Southern Miss, to win the bracket easily.
Now, with help from Florida State, LSU will get to host a Super Regional in Baton Rouge...something that seemed out of reach 2 months ago, and even 2 weeks ago.
Florida State was sent to Athens, Georgia Regional as one of the "last four" teams in the NCAA Tournament. Not a great spot, because that means they had to get passed Georgia, the host school, to escape the Regional. A Bulldogs team sporting a #4 National Seed in the whole tournament.
If LSU won their Regional, and Florida State doesn't find success in theirs, then the Tigers are on their way to Georgia to face a familiar opponent. Meaning LSU needed a lot of help, and to take care of their own business.
But here we are.
FSU took care of Georgia, LSU handled their business, and now Super Regional baseball returns to Baton Rouge.
