LSU's top ranked baseball team suffered its first loss of the season last night. The 18th ranked Texas Longhorns handed it to the Tigers, by a final score of 8-1.

Coach Paul Mainieri's squad scored their lone run in the first inning, then were only able to add four hits on the night.

Superstar LSU pitcher Zack Hess suffered the loss, as he gave up three runs in four innings, while Chase Costello gave up another three runs in two innings. Hess is now 1-1 on the season after 3 starts. His ERA is up to 5.68, and he's given up 16 hits and 9 runs in 12.2 innings pitched.

Though Hess did show some grit Friday night. He took a Texas line drive off his right arm in the first inning. Hess went down after getting, understandably, but stayed in the game after the coaching and training staff checked on him.

Game two is today at 3:30pm.
