Louisiana Native To Lead Review Of US Capitol After Attack

Retired Lieutenant Russel Honoré has been named as the leader for a review of the United State's Capitol Building security in the wake of last week's attack. That attack left 5 people dead, including a police officer.

Honoré is a native of Lakeland in Pointe Coupee Parish and best known for leading the Commander of the Joint Task Force for Hurricane Katrina response. Honoré made national headlines as he arrived in New Orleans to clean up the failed efforts of local and FEMA officials after Hurricane Katrina.

Now House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is asking Honoré to do that same at the Capitol. As the Speaker said Friday morning:

"I have asked retired Lieutenant General Russel L. Honoré to lead an immediate review of security infrastructure, inter-agency processes and command and control. The general is a respected leader wither experience dealing with crisis."  

Multiple investigations are already underway in response to the attack on the Capitol, including inquiries into the Department of Homeland Security, Department of Justice, and more. The investigations will focus on the lack of preparations, and lack of response to the January 6th attack.

The announcement of the review led by Honoré comes just days before the Inauguration of President-Elect Joe Biden, which has already dealt with multiple security issues. Preparations for the Inauguration even includes National Guard troops from Louisiana.
