James Gunn Has Already Started Writing the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ Script
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hasn’t even officially hit theaters yet — we’ve still got a couple hours — but James Gunn is already hard at work drafting the screenplay of Vol. 3.
He said as much to USA Today, which ran a great piece about Kurt Russell’s character, and interviewed the rest of the cast about what it’s like coming back for a sequel. Apparently Gunn has been “discussing the story with [Chris] Pratt and having ‘some pretty intense conversations’ with [Zoe] Saldana about a significant role in the threequel.” Whatever that means. We know those two have been flirtatiously dancing around each other for a while now — at times literally — so their budding relationship is probably going to be a big part of Vol. 3.
And Gunn also has the events of Infinity War to contend with. Since the MCU is so intricate and every action in any solo film will have repercussions in the big team-ups, Marvel Studios keeps all of its directors and story team in contact with each other so that no discrepancies arise. That’ll be especially important for the Guardians trilogy, since the third installment occurs after the mysteriously untitled Avengers 4. That hasn’t even started filming yet (the Russos say that they nixed the idea of filming both that and Infinity War at the same time), so there’s still quite a while between now and when we find out what happens to everyone in that movie, and how many of the Guardians make it out unscathed.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters May 5.
