Texans Beware of the Scary Toe-Biter Insect!

The other day I came across an article that was warning Texans about a Toe-bitting bug!! *Gasps in Spanish*

Gross. I know! Apparently, this summer isn’t just about the scorching heat because these creepy crawlies are making waves in creeks and ponds across the region.

These aren't your average bugs. Oh no, they're giant water bugs, part of the Belostomatidae family, and they're gonna give you the major heebie-jeebies.

Measuring up to a whopping 1.5 inches, these water bugs are the real deal in the world of "true bugs." Armed with piercing-sucking mouthparts, they're not afraid to use 'em.

Picture this: they grab onto their unsuspecting victims with their front legs, inject them with venomous saliva, and slurp up the resulting slurry. *Gasps in Spanish again*

However, experts are sharing some… good news about these bugs. Wizzie Brown, the bug expert from Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office, said that while these bugs might pack a punch, they're not exactly out to get us. Sure, it hurts like the devil, but hey, at least they're not spreading disease or anything.

Although these bugs are considered water bugs they’re not only found in the water. These winged wonders can take to the skies. So if you thought you were safe on dry land, think again!
