Texas Ends Vehicle Safety Inspections – Most Of Them Anyway

Starting in 2025, Texans will no longer have to put up with yearly vehicle safety inspections. Wipe that smile off your face El Paso.

Thanks to the high 'n mighty in the Texas legislature, Texas drivers will soon be able to skip that annoying, yearly chore of having their vehicle safety inspection done.

Which also ends the madness of getting last minute oil changes, duping in weird fuel additives or finding a "buddy" who will hack the system to get you a passing score. For El Paso though, it's business as usual.

Did Texas End Vehicle Safety Inspections?

Yep ... as of 2025, Texas drivers across most of the state no longer have to do this. You do still have to pay the state of "Tax-us" the yearly fee though.

Texas House Bill 3297 is the one that got (most) Texans off the hook even though it was frowned upon by a bunch of Texas law enforcement agencies and, (try not to be too shocked at this one), the Texas State Inspection Association.

Which Parts Of Texas Still Have To Get Their Inspections Done?

In addition to El Paso County, Brazoria, Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Johnson, Kaufman, Montgomery, Parker, Rockwall, Tarrant, Travis and Williamson counties all still need inspections, aka "emissions tests".

I understand that it's all about air quality but, again, El Paso gets shafted.  We still need these inspections while a really LARGE number of cars on El Paso roads are registered in neighboring counties like Hudsbeth and Culberson, in the state of New Mexico or the country of Juarez.

Areas that don't require inspections ... SMH.
