Citing "overall economic factors" Regions Bank, based in Birmingham, Alabama has announced a reduction in jobs. Many of those jobs that are being cut will be in Louisiana and Texas markets. Although a spokesperson for the banks, speaking to Al.com would only say most of the cuts, about 70% of them would take place outside of Regions' home base of Birmingham.

From our sources, we have learned that the majority of the job cuts will come in the bank's mortgage division. A Regions' spokesperson suggested that the higher-rate mortgage environment played a large part in leadership's decision to make the workforce reduction.

From what we have learned current Regions employees who are affected by the cuts will have the opportunity to apply for open positions for which they might qualify. The bank told members of the media that there was a wide range of employment opportunities within the bank's business groups across the bank's footprint.

As of this report, we have not been able to confirm how many jobs will be affected in Louisiana and Texas. But the company, through a corporate spokesperson did say that Regions will continue to offer its customers the same level of service they are accustomed to receiving.

If you have questions or concerns, it was suggested that you reach out to your local Regions Bank branch. It should be noted that the bank's day-to-day operation will remain unchanged and customers should not be concerned about their accounts and current business dealings.
