The Most Roach Infested City in America

In Louisiana, we deal with all kinds of interesting animals and insects.

From alligators to mosquitoes, nutria to roaches, we've got a really unique ecosystem in the pelican state.

A roach infestation can occur for several reasons, and typically it's a combination of factors that make an environment attractive to these pests.

They can occur due to things like warmth, pet food, unhygienic living environments, water sources, general food availability, plants and landscaping, and many more reasons.

Believe it or not, Louisiana as a whole is tied for 7th on the list of states most likely to have an issue with roaches according to excelpestservices.com.

While Louisiana is only tied for 7th for states with the most roaches, one Louisiana city sits at number 1 for being the most roach infested not only in Louisiana, but in the entire United States.

That city? You guessed it...New Orleans.

From pets.org -

"New Orleans tops the list with more than 41 percent of residents reporting seeing cockroaches.

The city is a hotbed for them, too, with water completely surrounding the city, sewage systems dating back to the early 1900s, and temperatures consistently ranging from the 70s to the 90s."

Not only are cockroaches gross, but they're dangerous. Roaches can carry over "30 types of bacteria, which can lead to diseases like salmonella and the plague."

Once roaches establish a presence in your home, they can reproduce rapidly, making it essential to address the infestation promptly.

Effective methods for eliminating roach infestations include using traps, baits, insecticides, and maintaining a clean and dry environment to remove their sources of food and water.

In severe cases, it may be necessary to consult with a pest control professional for targeted treatments.
