Iconic Disney Character No Longer Doing Meet and Greets

If you ever want to meet your Louisiana neighbors at someplace that isn't a festival or Mardi Gras we suggest you try a Disney Theme Park. Louisiana people have a certain attraction to the House of Mouse and Disney kind of likes Louisiana too. Did you know that Disney considered purchasing property in Louisiana before settling on the swamps of Central Florida?

And speaking of Mardi Gras the Disney Parks, especially Disney World in Orlando, becomes "Louisiana East" as locals from New Orleans, Lafayette, and Baton Rouge escape the madness of parades and beads to be a part of the madness that is Disney. Oh, they do celebrate Mardi Gras too, just not with the same intensity that we do in Louisiana.

Meeting Characters is Part of the Disney Experience

Besides the high-tech rides and attractions one of the more endearing aspects of a Disney trip is when you or your kids get to meet some of the characters. I personally have met Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, the Little Mermaid and I know for my kids having a picture and an autograph from characters such as these was a pretty big deal when they were much younger.

But there is one character that you won't be able to meet anymore. That character was described to Disney executives as being "potentially problematic". The character's actions reflect an overabundance of "body consciousness" and the character appears to be "jealous" as well.

As you read the concerns of Disney officials what character came to mind? Believe it or not, it's a character that may be the second most iconic creation of the Disney Studios with the exception of Mickey Mouse. Can you believe Disney is trying to keep you away from Tinker Bell?

Tinker Bell has been or should we say, had been a Disney fixture since 1953's Peter Pan. But ever since the parks reopened there has been no sign of the iconic character. Her signage has reportedly been removed from the Town Square Theater at Magic Kingdom. That was where guests could meet Tinker Bell back in the day, but no more.

For Many Tinker Bell Was Magic Personified

I remember as a very young child watching "The Wonderful World of Disney" on Sunday nights on television. It was the magic of Tinker Bell that opened the show following the opening credits. And when I first saw the fireworks at Disney World in the late 1990's seeing Tinker Bell soar above the crowd from Cinderella's castle literally gave me goosebumps.

I personally never viewed Tinker Bell as anything but a magical, mystical, creature who helped me believe in the power of imagination and the joy it brings. I never knew her to have psychological issues and a propensity to be a poor role model.

If I may share a quote from a Non-Disney TV Show from not so long ago.

"Hey diddle diddle the cat and the fiddle is a lie like all the rest. The astronauts killed the man in the moon, growing up took care of the rest". That quote is from the scene above from hit show Night Court.  It looks as if "grownups" got Tinker Bell and the rest of us who "didn't want to grow up", too. The whole thing makes me sick at my stomach, like Disney Gumbo.
