Louisiana woman Gypsy Rose Blanchard was released from Chillicothe Correctional Center on Thursday, Dec. 28, 2023. Since then she's quickly become pop culture phenomenon.

Ever since Gypsy Rose's arrest in 2015 for her involvement in her mother's murder, there have been numerous documentaries, docuseries, interviews, and made for TV mini-series about the Golden Meadows, Louisiana native, her boyfriend and accomplice Nick Godejohn, and her mother Dee Dee Blanchard.

The Murder Of Dee Dee Blanchard

Before we get to the list of what to watch, let's get into the tragic backstory that led to the making of these numerous productions.

Born in 1991, Gypsy Rose had a tumultuous and abusive upbringing.

Her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard, claimed that Gypsy Rose suffered from a variety of severe medical conditions, including leukemia, muscular dystrophy, and other ailments.

Dee Dee presented Gypsy Rose as a severely disabled child, confined to a wheelchair and requiring constant medical attention.

The community sympathized with the Blanchards, and Gypsy Rose received support from various charitable organizations, including financial aid and gifts and even a free house built and donated by Habitat for Humanity.

In 2015, the truth about Gypsy Rose's health and her relationship with her mother came to light.

Gypsy Rose was not actually ill; rather, Dee Dee had been fabricating her daughter's medical conditions for years, subjecting her to unnecessary medical treatments and surgeries.

Feeling she had no way out of the abusive situation she was in, Gypsy Rose and her boyfriend Nicholas Godejohn, murdered Dee Dee in their home in Greene County, Missouri on June 9, 2015.

Dee Dee Blanchard's body wasn't found until 5 days later.

For her role in her mother's murder, Gypsy Rose was sentenced to 10 years in prison, while her boyfriend who physically carried out the gruesome murder was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
