Texas Tech high priced star quarterback is taking time away from the team to deal with an addiction. An addiction to gambling on sports. And it's something that Texas Tech is taking seriously.

According to a press release from earlier on Monday, Sorsby will entire a residential treatment center for gambling addiction.

Texas Tech is committed to supporting Brendan through his recovery process and to ensure his long-term health and well-being.

“We love Brendan and support his decision to seek professional help,” Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire said. “Taking this step requires courage, and our primary focus is on him as a person. Our program is behind Brendan as he prioritizes his health.”

NCAA Investigating

There is a real chance here that Texas Tech's season already hangs in the balance. According to ESPN, Sorsby could be told that he won't be returning to college football next season. That would be leaving Texas Tech without a star Quarterback heading into the season.

The penalties range from permanent loss of eligibility to counseling, depending on the violation. Players who are found to have bet on their own games or on other teams at their school can face permanent ineligibility. In 2023, for example, the NCAA ruled that former Iowa State quarterback Hunter Dekkers was permanently ineligible after it found that he had wagered on games involving the Cyclones. -- David Purdum

This is a developing story.
