Texas Trade Deadline: Chris Young Shares Candid Plans For Rangers’ Future
The Texas Rangers are getting serious about their trade deadline plans, and its kind of refreshing. Because the team's President of Baseball Operations is being pretty honest with the fans about what's happening.
Texas Rangers Trade Deadline "Buyers" or "Sellers"?
With the MLB trade deadline coming up on July 31st, multiple teams are trying to figure out if they're "buyers" or "sellers" this year. In other words, will they be adding pieces to their roster to win now, or will they be unloading costly players to stock up their farm systems with young talent. Then there's the third, worse option, where the team doesn't do anything to get better today, or tomorrow.
The Texas Rangers will likely fall into the "buyer" or "seller" camp, and won't just stand still. At least, if you're listening to Rangers' President of Baseball Operations Chris Young, it sounds like that's his plan.
When Young was on KTCK-AM, he was asked about the upcoming trade deadline, and he got really honest, saying:
“The idea of playing a second half of season that’s not meaningful...it kills me to even think that way. With that being said, we do have decisions to make for the best interest and long-term health of the franchise. I expect to win, I expect to be buyers. We’ve gotten back to .500, but being .500 is not good enough”
Chris Young Gets Really Honest About Rangers Trade Deadline
Yes, a front office leader of a pro sports team in the year 2025 just got that honest with everyone about a trade deadline. Which is really, really, refreshing for sports fans. Because most of the time these guys speak in hyperbole, metaphors, and coach speak. Where they read the same bullet points, and leave it at that.
Chris Young just told fans, and more importantly HIS TEAM, where they stand. If the team wants him to go out and add another bat, or get some bullpen help, they have to play like they want it. Does his team want to see him offload a player like Adolis Garcia to get some minor league prospects? Then keep playing .500 baseball.
But Chris Young told his guys, if you want to stay together, play better.
