
Shreveport’s Sam Burns Makes The Ryder Cup Team
Shreveport native Sam Burns is on his way to represent the United States in one of golf's most prestigious events.
The former Calvary Baptist and LSU golf star has been selected as a member of the United States Ryder Cup team. US Team Captain Keegan Bradley announced today that Burns will join the team as one of the 6 "Captain's picks" for the team.
What Is The Ryder Cup Team?
The US Ryder Cup Team is a group of American golfers who will challenge a team of European golfers for the Ryder Cup Championship. There is a tournament held every other year to crown a champion between the two teams.
This is an event played mostly on pride, as there is no prize money for players. However, starting this year, US players will get a $200,000 each. Plus a pile of cash to give to charities.

The American Ryder Cup team is put together by the PGA Tour, while the European team is handled by a combination of European golf leagues. Which include PGA European Tour, PGA of Great Britain and Ireland, and the PGAs of Europe.
How Did Sam Burns Make The Ryder Cup Team?
US Team Captain Keegan Bradley made Burns one of this year's Captain's Picks, and got to share the news directly with Sam in a phone call that was captured on video.
While Burns did miss the automatic qualifiers for the US Ryder Cup Team, Bradley's selection means he will be representing the United States this year.
When Does The Ryder Cup Team Play?
The 2025 Ryder Cup will take place September 23rd through 28th at Bethpage Black in Farmingdale, New York. It will be the 45th playing of the event, but because it's a biennial event, it's actually been around for almost 100 years. They event started in 1927, 98 years ago.
