It appears tragedy may have struck an iconic Shreveport landmark tonight, as a well known restaurant caught fire.

Shreveport fire was called to the intersection of Line Ave and Drexel Street just before 10pm on Thursday, February 15th. That's the location of Superior Grill in Shreveport, a local favorite. According to Caddo Parish Dispatch records, over 17 units were on the scene at one point battling the blaze.

Witness accounts say that you could see flames coming through the roof of the building. In this public video posted to Facebook, you can make out flames and large plumes of smoke...

So far there has been no word on any injuries from any official sources. There's been no official report on the start of the fire, including what may have caused it. We also don't know the extent of the damage at this time.

Superior Grill was founded by Northwestern State University alumni Phil Barbaree and Bob Kirchoff in 1983. Both founders being local to the Shreveport area (Kirchoff from Minden and Barbaree being from Shreveport) meant it was logical to open their first joint venture in the city. That first spot was Superior Bar & Grill, opened in '83. From there they expanded to Baton Rouge, Birmingham, Alabama, and New Orleans.
