As we get closer to winter in Texas, many of us will think back to the winter storm in 2021 that knocked out the state's power grid. There have already been several stories in the news regarding the power grid in Texas, and the potential for outages due to extreme temperatures. A recent study was done on power outages in the US, and it's not good news for the Lone Star State.

When it comes to power outages, many of us probably think of California before we think of anywhere else in the US. Rolling blackouts and power outages in California have been fodder for the news for a long time. That's not necessarily the case now, though.

According to a study that was done by Compare The Market AU, Texas actually ranked as the state with the most power outages across all 50 states. If you're shocked at that sentence, you're not alone.

The study was done by comparing searches for information regarding power outages, and then comparing the number of power outages experienced from 2020 through 2022. In the middle of that timeframe is the winter storm of 2021.

According to their research, there were 91 electrical disturbances in 2021 alone. California saw only 42 in that same year. The total number of disturbances from 2020 to 2022 for Texas was 191. California was a close second with 167. Washington was next on the list with only 83.

As we head into the winter months, power and heat are going to be on everyone's mind. Be sure you prepare before the cold weather hits, and have a plan just in case you experience power outages.
