Louisiana Digital Health Report: Why Brainrot is Rising in the 318
Is it time for us to put down the controllers, close the laptop, and dare I say it, stop asking ChatGPT to do all our heavy lifting?
I just saw a new study from JuicePlus that has me doing a double-take. It turns out Louisiana is officially ranked second in the nation for "brainrot." I’m not going to lie, I’m a little nervous. Am I part of the reason the Bayou State scored so low? Is my nightly TikTok doom-scrolling finally taking a toll on my mental health and my smarts?
The study measured "digital overstimulation" across the country, and the results for us are pretty depressing. On a scale where 100 is the absolute max for being digitally fried, Louisiana scored a 98/100. We are officially in the "Very High" category, sitting right behind Utah, which took the top spot.
To put that in perspective, the national average is 59. We aren't just over the average; we are blowing past it.
So, what exactly is "Brainrot"?
The index looked at a weighted combination of factors to see where we are the most overstimulated. They analyzed things like:
Screen Time: Heavy use of TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube.
Gaming: High engagement in video games.
Lifestyle: A lack of outdoor activity, physical exercise, and teen reading levels.
The Louisiana Breakdown:
The findings for our state were particularly tough. The study pointed out that we have some of the "weakest protective factors" in the country. This means our teens aren't getting enough outdoor time or physical activity, and our high school completion rates are dragging us down. Combine that with a youth population that is obsessed with algorithm-driven platforms, and you have a recipe for a digital meltdown.
With searches for the term "brainrot" expected to jump by 66% this year, and teens spending up to five hours a day on social media, this is more than just a funny meme, it’s a warning.
Maybe today is the day we all go for a walk in the 318 and leave the phone at home. Or at least... maybe just one less scroll?
