The LSU baseball program is legendary. With seven National Championships, 19 College World Series appearances, and 12 Conference tournament champions. That's not all they've done, we could actually keep listing the program's accomplishments, but we actually want to talk about some Major League Baseball (MLB) here.

Today is Opening Day across Major League Baseball, and the landscape of the game is dotted with LSU Tigers.

There Might Not Be As Many Tigers On MLB Rosters As You May Think

Even with all the success that the LSU program has had, there aren't as many big leaguers right now as a blue chip program may expect. There are less than 10 LSU players on Opening Day rosters, and two of them are making their first Opening Day rosters ever.

While many LSU fans may think of Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Paul Skenes first when thinking of Tigers in the bigs, this will actually be his first Opening Day. Skenes didn't get called up to the big leagues until May of last year. From there, he dominated. Making the All-Star Team (was the starting pitcher), won 11 games, and was voted at the National League Rookie of the Year. Now he gets to start his first Opening Day.

Skenes was the #1 overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft; and his LSU teammate, Dylan Crews was taken #2 overall. Now both of them will get their first Opening Day starts at the same time.

Crews was taken by the Washington Nationals, and was a late-season call up for them last season. This year, he's going to be starting the year with the big club, and there are some pretty big expectations for him. The Nationals area a young team, but very talented. In order for them to win this year, they're going to need Crews to play like he did in Baton Rouge.

The rest of the league is scattered with LSU Tigers, 8 players in total. Three former LSU pitchers, two outfielders, and three infielders. Here's the whole list:
