We got a special request from David House of Texarkana for a song that his Mom wrote, and was recorded by Hank Williams. Below is David's email.

Great expanse of information on your website.

I'm David House, oldest son the late songwriter Jewell House of Texarkana, Texas. Mom wrote with and for Hank Williams, Webb Pierce, Red Sovine and others from '49 into the '60s. Today is the 40th anniversary of her death (she died alone at home in Texarkana on Sept. 3, 1971).

Would you please play "My Son Calls Another Man Daddy" in memory of her? That was the first song she sold (around March 1949), and she sold it to Hank Williams, which launched her career.

Mom did a lot of business at the Hayride as well and occasionally sang with Hank and Red Sovine. KWKH was special to her. I grew up hearing those call letters in many conversations between mom and artists. Thanks in advance for considering my request. -- David House

Hey Danny,

What a wonderful thing to do for mom. I'm blown away and deeply touched. Mother would be, too, particularly because it's from KWKH. Thank you so very much.

In case you'd like to add a picture of mom, I've attached one of her with Jim Reeves in a Hayride dressing room. She was good friends with him and worked with him in some capacity.

I've also attached, almost as a trivia challenge, a promo b&w of an artist who evidently was close to mom, but there's no ID and I haven't been able to find anyone who can identify her. Maybe someone at the station would know who she is. Perhaps she's living. I'd like to find her and interview her. I'd also like to find Ann Raye, but no one knows where she is.

There's much that I remember about mom's work and much that I'm finding out about her as I conduct research for what I hope will be a book about mom. Maybe someone who knew her will see your blog item and offer some recollections.

If anyone would like to email me about mom, particularly those who knew her and could share anecdotes, or who know of folks who knew her, they can reach me at either david-house1@sbcglobal.net or davidhouse10@gmail.com. So many of her colleagues are dead, but not all.

I reside in a suburb of Fort Worth, but have recorder/will travel to potential sources.

Have a blessed day and take good care. Thanks again for caring about mom and my request.

Best,
David
