Sports in a bubble can be entertaining. However, sports with a sellout crowd, that's not only entertaining, but it's also an experience. That's the kind of experience that many of Louisiana's high school athletes have come to miss during these pandemic times. Now that the state has eased many coronavirus restrictions, at least this year's State Softball Tournament can now be played in front of a capacity crowd.

Today in Sulphur the state of Louisiana's top high school softball programs will begin play in the annual state championship tournament. For many of the athletes on the field, this will be the first time in over a year they've been allowed to play games with a full complement of fans in the stands.

Organizers of this year's tournament say the past year has been especially rough on the host city of Sulphur. Of course, there was the pandemic, but the area was also walloped with back-to-back hurricanes in the summer of 2020 too. Still, organizers have managed to pick up the pieces, and beginning today, the cry of "Play Ball" will once again echo throughout the Frasch Park Complex.

Semi-final games will begin with today's action. The finals will begin on Saturday. By Sunday we will know, weather permitting of course, who the best of the best in softball happen to be. If you'd like to take a peek at the schedule for the weekend, we have that for you right here.

Tickets for the games are $13 and there is a convenience fee of $1.65 added to each ticket. You may secure your tickets online via this website. Based on information from the LHSAA, the governing body of the tournament, ticket sales will be done online only. Frasch Park is located in Sulphur Louisiana in Calcasieu Parish at 400 Picard Road.

It's good to see that Southwest Louisiana is making a comeback from those monster storms and how sports are playing a part in making that happen. After all, who doesn't love a good comeback story, right?
