There were a total of 16 different Louisiana artists nominated for a total of 23 Grammy awards in genres like jazz, blues, Cajun, rap, country and gospel.

After the trophies were handed out last night, a total of four of those acts took home wins.

The New Orleans Nightcrawlers brass band won in the Best Regional Roots category for their 202 album Atmosphere. It was their first Grammy Award. They beat out fellow New Orleans-based band Cameron Dupuy & the Cajun Troubadours along with Acadiana's Sweet Cecilia.

Fellow New Orleanian PJ Morton took home the Best Gospel Album honors for his Gospel According to PJ: From the Songbook of PJ Morton. It was the third Grammy of his career. His previous Grammy wins had been in contemporary R&B categories.

87-year-old bluesman Bobby Rush, a native of Homer, took home the win in the Best Traditional Blues Album for his LP, Rawer Than Raw. Rush has six total nominations in his career and got his first win in 2017 in the same category.

The other Louisianian to score a Grammy yesterday was singer Ledisi, who was born in New Orleans. She got the nod in the Best Traditional R&B Performance for her song "Anything For You."
