James Wan Describes ‘Aquaman’ as Like ‘Star Wars Underwater’
James Wan’s Aquaman hasn’t been plagued with any weird rumors or high-profile exits so far, and actually seems to be going, well, swimmingly. Wan has described the shoot as “super complicated,” even out of the water, but Aquaman seems to be in a league of its own. Which may be because it’s in practically a different world from the rest of the DCEU — or, as Wan apparently described it on set, “Star Wars underwater.”
While talking with Kiss Radio, actor Ludi Lin, who plays Murk in the movie, explained how cool it was to work on a movie that was so separate from the rest of Warner Bros.’ cinematic universe.
The thing is, there is so much about Aquaman that I have seen so far in filming… there’s so much to this film. The difference between Aquaman and the other superheroes in the DC Universe, is that it exists almost in a different world. James Wan, our director, is amazing. He’s described his vision as ‘Star Wars underwater’ because it is! All the physics are different, their weapons are different, the characters are very unique. It’s just super cool.
Considering how well the DCEU has done with continuity in the past, it’s probably a good thing that Aquaman is going to be a thing unto itself. And it sounds like it was absolutely bizarre to shoot, with a ton of sequences taking place entirely underwater. I’m curious to see it just to see what the final product is going to look like.
Aquaman hits theaters December 21, 2018.
