Great Odin’s raven! The official Transformers Twitter account just unveiled the latest member of the cast of next summer’s Transformers: The Last Knight. It’s Sir Anthony Hopkins:

The man, the myth, the legend, the talking transforming robot. (I’m guessing.)

(Also, what’s Anthony Hopkins doing in that picture? Is this, like, Anthony Hopkins’ Blue Steel? Do you think he has a name for it? I vote “Poisoned Chianti.”)

Hopkins joins a cast that already includes Mark Wahlberg, Josh Duhamel, Isabela Moner, Jerrod Carmichael, and Peter Cullen as the voice of Optimus Prime. (Fun fact: The film’s Wikipedia page’s cast list currently has Cullen followed by “Megatron,” who, I guess, is playing himself). This is also supposed to be Michael Bay’s final Transformers film, but he’s said that before; at this point, Bay’s on his second or third final Transformers.

Hopkins is no stranger to big-budget action films. For all his classical training and theatrical bonafides, much of his Hollywood work, including some of his most iconic roles, came in blockbusters. These days he can be seen as Thor’s pops Odin (He’ll reprise the role for next year’s Thor: Ragnarok); when I was a kid, even before I saw Hopkins in The Silence of the Lambs, I loved him as the older Zorro in Martin Campbell’s 1998 reboot The Mask of Zorro. The guy can do some Shakespeare, but he also clearly loves pulp as well. (And, y’know, money.)

Whatever it’s about, whoever Hopkins plays, Transformers: The Last Knight should certainly scratch that itch. (And, y’know, that other itch as well.) Transformers: The Last Knight opens in theaters on June 23, 2017.
