David Bellamy born in Darby, Florida. Along with older sibling Howard, he forms The Bellamy Brothers, whose skewed wit develops both wordplay hits and socially astute singles. They receive many Country Music Association nominations for duo without winning.

Bass player Sonny Lemaire born in Fort Lee, Virginia. He joins Exile, which shifts in the 1980s from a rock band to country, where it reels off a seven-year string of hits, including "Woke Up In Love," "Crazy For Your Love" and "I Can't Get Close Enough"

Lester Flatt & Earl Scruggs first record with Bill Monroe in Columbia Records' Chicago studio. The day yields the original version of "Blue Moon Of Kentucky" and "Toy Heart".
