Three Tigers Earn SEC Postseason Honors

The LSU Basketball team finished the regular season with a 9-9 record in the SEC for the second straight year, but they've also placed someone on the All-SEC First Team for the second straight year.

BATON ROUGE – LSU junior forward Johnny O'Bryant III became the ninth LSU player to earn first-team All-SEC honors in consecutive years Tuesday when the league announced the coaches' selections for All-Southeastern Conference honors.

O'Bryant III led LSU in scoring and rebounding with his career best scoring average of 15.6 points per game and 7.9 rebounds a game. O'Bryant III, of Cleveland, Miss., is ranked ninth in the league in scoring and fourth in rebounds. He became during the season the 40th player in school history to score over 1,000 career points and he is the 21st to have both 1,000 points and 500 rebounds. He has eight double-doubles going into Thursday night's SEC Tournament second round game with Alabama at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. His 25 career double doubles is second in the league among active players.

Two Freshman Earn SEC Honors

Also, two of LSU's freshmen were honored by the league coaches. Jordan Mickey was named Coaches second-team All-SEC and he was named to the league's All-Defensive team and the All-SEC Freshman Team.

Jarell Martin of Baton Rouge was also named to the All-SEC Freshman team.

Mickey, from Dallas, averaged 13.0 points per game and 7.6 rebounds with a league leading 96 blocks during the year. He leads the league in block average both overall and in the SEC and his shooting percentage of 53.3 percent is second in the SEC. His rebound average is fifth overall in the SEC.

Martin averaged 10.2 points during the 2013-14 season, but averaged 11.4 points in the 18 conference games, 12.5 points in the last 11 league games with eight games in double figures. He finished the season extremely strong after spraining his ankle 33 seconds into the opening game which forced him to miss the remainder of that game and two more.

The last time two LSU freshmen made the first-year team was 2006 when Tasmin Mitchell and Tyrus Thomas were selected.
