Stocking Community Cupboards with Canned Goods
Each holiday, especially at Thanksgiving, we pause and thank the good Lord for His many blessings and most of us have never experienced real hunger. Believe it or not, there are some in our own parishes and towns who go to bed hungry every night if they have a bed to sleep in.
That's why canned food drives are so helpful this time of year and there are several going on with which you can get involved. In fact, there are local groups right now donating canned foods to hundreds of folks.
Kroger, Select Energy, Holy Trinity Catholic Church, and Knights of Columbus have teamed up with volunteers from Loyola to package canned and non-perishable food items.
The students have packed boxes that will be delivered to dozens of families over the holidays.
Without volunteers the Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana wouldn't be able to exist. There are almost 12,000 hours of volunteer help each year providing food to the hungry.
The Food Bank couldn't survive without help from such generous volunteers. There are many ways and programs with which you can help our local Food Bank . Check their website for how you can help this holiday season. http://www.foodbanknla.org/volunteers.cfm
