Hundreds of thousands of people will end up enjoying the Livestock Show at this year's State Fair of Louisiana.  And,  perhaps the Junior Livestock Show and Sale is the most interesting and fun.

I enjoyed checking out the teenagers and young folks showing their  sheep,  lambs,  hogs,  hens, and even the Ag mechanics  students with their picnic tables.

The hogs brought in anywhere from $5,000 to $1,000 for 4-H'ers and FFA members.  The students would parade their animals on display as the auctioneer would rapid fire through the bids.   The students came from all over the state:  DeSoto and Caddo Parishes,  Sabine,  Jeff Davis,  Bienville, and Natchitoches.

"I have one thousand..one thousand,  do I hear one- five?  There's one- five,  can I get one -7.

There's one -seven,  one- seven going once...two thousand dollars (the crowd erupts in applause and cheers) two thousand, can I get two thousand five.

There's two- five..two- five going once...over there,  yes,  I have 3 thousand (more applause and cheers),  can I get three- five...three-five going once...come on now,  just look at those hams...four thousand,  can I get four- five...Four- five going once,  four- five going twice...Five! Five can I get five- one,  Five thousand going once,  five thousand going twice..Sold to Mr. Patrick for $5,000!

Wow! Many of the buyers represented several businesses that pooled their funds together to help students get the money they will then use for college or trade school.

In fact,  one of the auctioneers had graduated from Louisiana Tech.

During the poultry show and sale,  I watched a little boy with three hens get $1,700 for them.  The auctioneer asked him if he wanted to say anything and he said,  "Geaux Tigers!"   The auctioneer answered, "Yeah,  the LSU Tigers are gonna beat Bama Saturday! Geaux Tigers!"   The  crowd responded with applause and laughter.
